Chinese dance dates back over 5,000 years. Earlier dance movements were predominately influenced by folk stories, historic figures and classic myths and legends. But later on as dedicated artists sought to document and formalize Chinese dance, the style began to evolve. Artists drew their inspiration from dance elements in folk operas, incorporating the techniques of ballet training and Chinese martial art forms. Today, Chinese dance has its own unique vocabulary, meanings, and ordered structure that enables a dancer to fully express his thoughts and feelings with strength, ease and grace.

Dance provides the three components of any well-rounded fitness program: stretch, resistance training and aerobics. It allows for rhythmic movement, encouraging the body to attain flexibility, strength and control while nourishing the senses. Dance also utilizes the body, mind and, most essentially, the spirit. After a dance movement class one is energized and ready to begin or return to work. The mind is sharper, creativity is enhanced and energy levels are increased.
